I think we are mostly saying the same thing.

I think it takes two to tango. Both were rational actors too. FB needed content that was more compelling than birthdays. The industry needed access to what is the largest audience ever amassed in the history of humanity (not an overstatement)

I point out that the industry is in this position because they’ve changed the nature of how they do editorial to fit FBs platform.

Is it FBs fault for the design choices AND for leaning into making the news an integral part of their news feed ecosystem. Yes.

Is it the industries fault for seeing all the big shiny numbers and thinking that FBs platform would be amazeballs for their bottom line and not ultimately corrupt their product. Yes.
